Joanne McAllister Therapy
Hello, I’m Joanne, a warm, approachable LGBTQA+ counsellor offering a safe, supportive space where you can explore your feelings and emotions without fear of judgement.
I work in a trauma-informed, person-centred way, tailoring sessions to suit your unique needs and pace.
I work with a wide range of clients, with a particular focus on supporting LGBTQA+ individuals. Alongside my private practice, I also work with the Enfield LGBT Network, offering affirming and inclusive support for those navigating identity, relationships, mental health challenges, or life transitions.
While my core approach is person-centred, meaning our work is led by you and your experiences. I can also offer creative tools such as time line work and breathwork if these feel right for you. Together, we can find what works best to support your growth.
I am a BACP member and a qualified breathwork coach
Sessions are available online or in-person, depending on what feels most comfortable for you.
If you'd like to reach out or learn more, I’d be happy to hear from you.
LGBTQA+ Person-Centred Counselling
LGBTQA+ person-centred counselling is a safe and supportive space for people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, asexual, or anywhere else on the spectrum of gender and sexual diversity.
At its core, person-centred counselling is based on the belief that everyone has the ability to grow, heal, and find their own way forward when they are given acceptance, empathy, and understanding.
In this approach:
You set the pace — the counselling is led by your needs, not by an agenda.
Your identity is respected — all parts of who you are are welcomed without judgement.
You are supported, not directed — I listen deeply, offering empathy and unconditional positive regard rather than advice or instructions.
For LGBTQA+ individuals, this means having a counsellor who acknowledges the unique challenges that can come with exploring identity, facing discrimination, navigating relationships, or seeking self-acceptance.
The aim is to create a space where you feel truly heard, valued, and empowered to explore your thoughts and feelings in your own time and in your own way.
About Me
After a successful 20-year career in the media, I felt called to make a change, one that would allow me to work more closely with people and support them in a meaningful way. This led me to retrain as a counsellor, following my passion for helping others.
I have a particular commitment to working with the LGBTQA+ community, providing an inclusive and affirming space where every part of your identity is respected and valued. Whether you’re exploring your sense of self, navigating life’s challenges, or simply looking for someone who will listen without judgement, you don’t have to do it alone.
My aim is to offer a safe, supportive environment where you feel truly heard and empowered to find your own way forward.
I offer both online (via Zoom) and in person counselling services. In person sessions are in Kings Cross, London
Which you decide is your personal choice as there are benefits to both.
On Line Counselling
Flexible and convenient – You can meet with me from home, work, or wherever feels comfortable, without the need to travel.
Easier to fit into daily life – Your sessions can be scheduled around work and other commitments.
Comfort of familiar surroundings – Many people find it easier to relax and open up when they are in their own space.
In Person Counselling
A dedicated space just for you – Stepping into a calm, neutral setting helps you focus fully on yourself and the process.
A stronger sense of connection – Being in the same room can create a deep feeling of presence and support.
Richer communication – Meeting face-to-face allows for natural conversation and connection through both words and body language.
Grounding and reflective – Taking time to travel to a session can become part of the therapeutic routine, helping you pause and reflect.
